Tire components: With the advent of time the car tires for modern passenger cars have become more complex. The rubber tires we drive on today have been in the making for over a century. Tire components can be grouped into two main structural elements.
- The tread
- Belt Assembly
- The casing
Let’s have a brief in – depth look in each of them.
- Tread: This is made of pure synthetic and natural rubber. A brand new tire when processed has a textured surface which promises high mileage, good grip on road and water expulsion. Tire tread connects with road & sidewall. It has three areas: Cap, Base & Shoulder.
- Belt Assembly: The belt system is placed on top of the casing during the construction process. The belt system’s main function us to provide stability to the tread area and contributes to wear, handling & traction.
- The casing: The layer that lies just beneath the tire tread is the casing. Tire casings act as the foundation upon which the tread sits. The casing layer consists of threads crisscrossing from one side to the other. Tire casings are rated by how many threads they contain.
